A short throw shifter can make driving your S197 Mustang more rewarding by decreasing shift throws and providing a more positive, direct feeling shift. Many fit the
stock shifter, and others can be fitted with an aftermarket shift handle to create a unique look inside your Mustang. We’ve gathered information on all the aftermarket
short throw shifters available for the S197 Mustang GT and created a buyers guide to help you choose the right shifter:
MGW Short Throw Shifter
The MGW short throw shifter is machined from aircraft grade aluminum and all billet components are hard coat anodized. It has several unique features including a
variable shift throw, from 15 percent to 50 percent, that the customer can fine tune to their personal preference. The shift knob can also be adjusted in both height
and rotational position to fit drivers’ personal comfort settings. A strong lateral spring load eliminates the 3rd gear lockout issue with the remote shifter design
of the S197 Mustang. The shifter comes complete with no component pieces from the original OEM shifter used. Replacement parts include all required bushings and washers
for connecting brackets. The kit comes complete with sound and thermal deflection technology to maintain original OEM sound levels and even better heat insulation. The
shifter is available with your choice of shift knob shaft, one with the OEM 12 MM threads and one with 3/8-16 standard threads for most retro aftermarket plastic shift
balls.

Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter
Steeda’s Tri-Ax shifter for the S197 Mustang has a design reminiscent of the “Top Loeader” and incorporates 20 years of race-proven technology. The Tri-Ax features a
billet beam that replaces the factory steel mounting rail and upgraded bushings. The base, handle and beam are all CNC machined by Steeda from 6061 aluminum. Additional
features include stop-bolts to prevent damage to the transmission and linkage under hard usage, reduced throw, a two-position handle height, and internal spring tension
to ensure accurate shifts. The Tri-Ax shifter fits the stock shift knob and can also be fitted with Steeda’s billet shift knob.

Steeda Sport Shifter
The Steeda sport shifter is a competitively priced alternative to the Tri-Ax shifter. It features a billet aluminum top plate that uses adjustable shifter stops to
prevent transmission damage from over-extension of the shift handle. A nickel-plated lever provides smooth shifts and longevity. A revised pivot ratio provides short
throws while maintaining a comfortable reach. Installed with improved urethane bushings (sold separately) provides even better shift control. An unassembled kit is
also available.

The Roush short throw shifter is CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum that ensures the ultimate in strength and quality. Polyurethane bushings provide improved, more
positive shifts, and the throw has been reduced by 55 percent for quick shifts. The shifter works with the factory shift knob, and can also be fitted with one of
Roush’s shift knobs.

Hurst Comp/Plus Short Throw Shifter
The Hurst Comp/Plus Shifter is engineered and designed to allow for more positive and precise gear changes. Shift travel is reduced by 40 percent for quicker shifts
urethane mount bushings eliminate rail flex-direct. The kit includes the traditional Hurst chrome-plated stick with the classic white shift ball.

B&M Precision Sport Shifter
