Product Review: Hurst Competition/Plus Short Throw Shifter
Posted 5.17.2008 in Product Reviews
Whether driving a road course, accelerating down the quarter mile or simply taking hairpin turns on a mountain road, the shiftr in the S197 Mustang GT does a pretty good
job of providing relatively accurate and smooth gear changes. However, many owners prefer an even more direct and accurate shift and replace the factory shifter with
an aftermarket short throw shifter. One of the most popular for late-model S197 Mustangs is the Hurst Competition/Plus short throw shifter, part #39-0201. This shifter
is popular as it has a traditional muscle car appearance, with the chromed stick and white ball shifter knob. The shifter is similar in design to the factory shifter,
with the exception of a 40% shorter throw and urethane front and rear bushings to minimizes deflection under hard acceleration.

Featured: Mickey Knauss' "Barricade" Saleen Mustang
Posted 5.3.2008 in Features
Mickey Knauss has been obsessed with cars since he can remember. He’s always been especially fond of American muscle cars, and thought he’d died and gone to heaven when
he first saw his first S197 Saleen Mustang. “It was a black Extreme with the carbon fiber diffusers and had the sleekest, sexiest bodykit I had ever seen in my life,”
Mickey remembers. “From that day on, I told all my friends and family I would buy one soon enough and of course they laughed.” Despite being only 18 years old at the
time, Mickey surprised everyone by getting the money for a down payment and took the plunge on a used Saleen 3V. Black, of course, like the first one he had seen.
