Ford Motor Company announced today it has built its 9 millionth Mustang. The GT Convertible Mustang is heading west to be delivered to
a dealership in Iowa. The Ford Mustang, approaching its 45th anniversary on April 17th, 2009, is one of the most widely recognized vehicles in the world. Today, one of
every two sports cars sold in America is a Ford Mustang. The Mustang is also Ford Motor Company’s longest-running nameplate. Mustang was introduced on April 17, 1964,
at the New York World’s Fair.
The son shined brightly Sunday during the SPEED World Challenge GT Race presented by Applied Computer System at the 34th annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Brandon Davis, son of team owner and driver Mike Davis, grabbed the pole position and then the race victory, capturing his second career win and first in this series.
In the ACS Express #10 Ford Mustang Cobra, Brandon Davis charged to the front in the morning qualifying session and held onto the top position in a flawless performance
in his first time driving this historic track.
The show season on the West Coast is officially kicked off every year by the Fabulous Fords Forever show at Knott's Berry Farm. Hundreds of Fords travel from all parts of the
country to attend the show, and nearly every Mustang club in California has cars in attendance. With a full four years of production, S197 Mustangs were more abundant than
ever before and made up a huge part of the show. Even compared to last year there were many more Mustangs as well as an increase in the quality of the cars.
You would think that after strapping yourself in a 2,700 hp, turbocharged Pro-Mod Pontiac GTO, that you’d get the speed bug out of you. But that’s not the case for
Troy Coughlin of Jegs, who along with the rest of his family, own and operate the large automotive aftermarket mail-order company. Coughlin is a racer at heart and
decided he wanted a unique Mustang that could be used as a daily driven vehicle which at the same time satisfies his hunger for extreme performance.
Coughlin started out with a brand new 2008 Saleen Mustang and immediately shipped it off to Granatelli Motorsports in Oxnard, California. According to JR Granatelli,
Couglin wanted the Saleen Mustang “tweaked” to make it to his liking. This meant building upon the vehicle’s capabilities to further bring it up to the horsepower level
and handling capabilities that Coughlin has grown accustomed to.
Corsa Performance Exhausts has developed the new Ultimate Touring Exhaust – a full axle-back exhaust system designed to tame some of the thunder of highly modified S197
V8 Mustangs. The Ultimate Touring Exhaust utilizes Corsa’s patented Reflective Sound Cancellation (RSC) technology to tone down the wide range of sound frequencies that
are found in high-horsepower Mustangs that have been modified with headers, high-flow catalytic converters, superchargers, head and cam packages and more.
Today Stillen had their first annual American Peformance open house at their facility in Costa Mesa, CA. Despite the overcast weather, dozens of Mustangs showed up to
enjoy an afternoon of mingling with fellow owners and admiring each others' rides. Registered participants had the opportunity to win some very nice raffle prizes or
get three dyno pulls on the Stillen dyno, and everyone could take tours of the Stillen building or participate in technical discussions. Several vendors also made an
appearance including AP Racing, Agent 47, Boze Wheels, Eibach, Granatelli Motorsports, JBA Headers, Saleen, and Street Scene Equipment.
We brought you the details about the Saleen Speedlab ShakerCharger - a unique combination of a functional
ram air system that feeds cold air directly to Saleen's Series VI supercharger system. The production version is now even closer to being finished, and we stopped by Saleen
to get some video footage of the final prototype system. Click below to see the ShakerCharger in action...
Zeeshan Mohamed has always loved Mustangs, in particular the 1965-1968 Fastback models. So as soon as the S197 Mustang was released with styling cues similar to the
first generation Mustang, he went out and got his hands on a black-on-black 2006 Mustang GT with every available option. “Stang Skeleton” was born!
Having previously modified his 2005 Cadillac Escalade, Zeeshan was no stranger to building a custom car. While he didn’t have anything specific in mind when he bought
his Mustang, he quickly knew that he wouldn’t be keeping it stock. “I’ve always found room for improvement in any car I’ve driven,” he confessed. It wasn’t long before
he got a feel for his Mustang and figured out what he wanted to change. The result is one of the cleanest (and meanest) Mustangs we’ve ever come across.
It seems that some will never be satisfied in their quest for horsepower. The S197 Mustang GT’s 300-horsepower will quench that desire for the majority of owners, but
there are also those that will have as much horsepower as their checkbooks will allow. ST Motorsports of San Berndardino, CA is never one to shy away from setting new
boundaries of performance with the Mustang, and for this article we will go over a custom supercharger setup for a Mustang GT owned by one of their horsepower-hungry
customers as the components necessary to achieve the amount of horsepower being produced.
The final production Roush P-51A Mustang, number 151 in a limited run of only 151, sold at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event at West Palm Beach, Fla., for an
impressive $135,000.
Proceeds from the sale, a partnership with the Ford Motor Company, go to support the Salute to Education Scholarship charity which awards financial assistance to high
school seniors who demonstrate community service, academic achievement, leadership and strong educational and career goals. Ford Motor Company, participating Ford and
Lincoln Mercury dealers, and Ford Motor Credit fund the program which has helped thousands of students realize their dream for a college or university education.
We couldn't help but notice this unique 2008 Shelby GT500, lot #647, that was auctioned off at the 2008 Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Classic Car Auction. Tribute Cars, LTD
took a completely stock 2008 Shelby GT500 and replaced the front end, doors, and quarter panels with reproduction '68 Mustang parts. Other touches, such as chrome door
handles and custom taillights add to the '68 look as well. We're not really sure whether the car looks cool or just confused, but a bidder thought it was worth at
least the final bid of $76,000.
