Saleen Speedlab 550 Horsepower Supercharger Kit
When Saleen first announced their Series VI supercharger system for the 2005+ Mustang GT, it put out 400 horsepower and 420 lb-ft torque. At the time, that seemed like a lot. The previous generation supercharged Saleen Mustang had a mere 350 horsepower and 410 lb-ft torque. Since that time the numbers have continued to climb. In 2006 Saleen upgraded its supercharged model to 435 horsepower, and then again to 465 in 2007. Saleen Speedlab began offering an aftermarket version of the supercharger kit to Mustang owners with 475 horsepower, and has recently launched a 550 horsepower supercharger kit for owners wanting the ultimate in performance.

The kit includes Saleen’s Series VI supercharger, Saleen air box and 98mm intake tube, 12-lb pulley, 39 lb/hr fuel injectors, colder spark plugs, dual fuel pump system, and custom tuning from JDM Engineering. For this particular car, the customer also ordered Saleen’s dash-mounted boost and air temperature gauges that read up to 15-lbs of boost compared to the normal 10-lbs. Also unique on this particular install are the custom painted “Speedlab 550” valve covers. Check out the details of the 550 horsepower supercharger kit as it is installed by Saleen Speedlab at their Irvine, CA facility.

Our Mustang was originally a non-supercharged 3-valve S281. You can see it already has the Saleen air box

Removing the front bumper is necessary to install the accessory components to the supercharger kit

Saleen’s 3-valve model includes underdrive pulleys, but the supercharger requires the stock ones to be reinstalled

This customer ordered custom painted valve covers exclusively from Hillbank Motorsports. It was a nice touch that really set off the engine bay

Colder spark plugs are installed

Also included in the base kit is the front-mounted heat exchanger that helps keep the supercharger cool

A water pump is installed behind the right front bumper to keep water flowing between the supercharger and heat exchanger

A new belt is installed to drive the supercharger

39 lb/hr fuel injectors are used to ensure enough fuel reaches each cylinder

You can see the huge difference between pulleys for the 550-hp kit and the standard kit. The smaller pulley will produce around 12 lbs of boost

Each kit comes standard with Saleen’s Series VI supercharger

A new Saleen air box with a high flow filter

A new intake tube is also provided as well

A dual fuel pump is installed to make sure the engine doesn’t lose power from fuel starvation

Instead of reflashing the PCM, the 550-hp kit comes with an SCT XCalibrator 2 with a custom tune from JDM Engineering that simply needs to be plugged in and uploaded

The optional boost and air temperature gauges allows for a higher boost reading (15 lbs compared to 10 lbs)

A look at the kit completely installed. 550 horsepower doesn’t come much easier!
